Behind the Curtain

Yesterday I went on an adventure. How I got here was kind of wild (and probably stupid), but I lived to tell the tale and post a picture.

I thought with how little snow we had this year that for sure the road to Silver Falls would be clear enough. 😂 Yeah, it wasn't, but thankfully the conditions were just good enough. There had been many snowmobiles to harden the snow pack this past week and just the right amount of fresh stuff to give my Jeep traction to get me all the way up to the trailhead. I don't recommend doing what I did yesterday to anyone (especially with temps rising now). I really do think I lucked out as I could have been easily stuck along the way and had to hike many miles out.

The trail is covered in about 3-4 feet of snow, so pretty much impassable without snowshoes, but the bottom section was hard pack enough to carefully traverse up to a few sections of the creek. I was pretty jacked up from the drive that I never really got a chance to settle in and relax (which is when I do my best work), but I managed to get at least one decent shot from the trip. The composition is a bit messy, but I'll take it and it will be a good solid reminder for me to slow down (and plan a little better) next time.

Well anyway, there's a little glimpse behind the curtain of a landscape/nature photographer for you. It's never easy and we put ourselves in scary situations sometimes to get the shot 😅
